Reinild Mees

The Dutch pianist, who is also artistic director of the Alba Rosa Viëtor Composition Competition, made a name for herself as a partner of many renowned singers. She has performed in European concert halls, including the Concertgebouw and De Doelen, with singers such as Piotr Beczala, Sergei Leiferkus, Konrad Jarnot, Wolfgang Holzmair, Olaf Bär, Amanda Roocroft, Marlis Petersen, Claudia Barainsky, Charlotte Margiono, Claron McFadden, Roberta Alexander and Karin Strobos. She recorded a large number of CDs with songs by, among others, Szymanowski, Schreker, Elgar, Korngold, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Grieg and Respighi. In 2004 she won the Szymanowski Award and the Merit of Polish Culture distinction for releasing Karol Szymanowski’s complete song oeuvre on four CDs, which were also awarded the Fryderyk Award ( the  Polish ‘Edison’). As artistic director of the 20th-century Lied Foundation, which she founded, she presented programs such as Goethe’s Women, The unforgettable songs of Leonard Bernstein, From Alma to Gustavand the Women’s Music Marathon. Since 2014 she has also been artistic director of the ALBA ROSA VIVA! Festival, in which female composers form a common thread. She also taught at the Conservatories of Amsterdam and Utrecht and at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf. In 2021 she was appointed Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau for her special services in the field of song.
