Igor Coelho Marques (1988) grew up in his native Brazil. At the age of 18, he began studying composition at Brigham Young University in the United States. In 2013, he won first prize in BYU’s Mayhew Contest and graduated with honors. He then studied for two years with Morris Rosenzweig at the University of Utah, where he received his master’s degree. He also took master classes with Kaija Saariaho, Martin Bresnick, Jason Eckardt, Chaya Czernowin and Mark Applebaum. He currently studies composition at the University of Buffalo with Jeffrey Stadelman. Igor wrote works for orchestra, choir and chamber music ensemble in all kinds of settings. A number of his works have already been performed.
