Alba Rosa Viva! Festival 2018

The third festival was a collaboration with Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and took place on December 2, 2018. This time the theme was the outspoken compositions by female composers. Artistic director Reinild Mees selected a program including Clara Schumann, Henriëtte Bosmans, Cécile Chaminade, Rosy Wertheim, Alma Mahler, Alba Rosa Viëtor and Tansy Davies, thecomposer in residenceof the Concertgebouw.

The program also included works by Karl Weigl (Rosy Wertheim’s teacher), Willem Jeths, Gabriel Fauré and Franz Schubert. The musicians included Karin Strobos (mezzo-soprano), Harriet Krijgh (cello), Ella van Poucke (cello), Niek Baar (violin), Thomas Beijer (piano) and the Dudok String Quartet. On this occasion, the Alba Rosa Viëtor composition prize was specially awarded for a composition for soprano and piano trio. The four shortlisted compositions were performed by the Amatis Trio and the singers Lilian Farahani and Katharine Dain.

The first prize went to Silvia Lanao Aregay from Spain and the “audience award” to Ramin Amin Tafreshi from Iran. Leo Samama gave a lecture on female composers and Tansy Davies was interviewed by Vrouwkje Tuinman.
